RECENT EVENTS:

Guest, Author Jeremy Smith

May 31 @ the McReavy House, 7PM—-

Smith will discuss his book, Growing a Garden City, just out from publisher Skyhorse/W.W. Norton.

Growing a Garden City tells the surprising, inspiring true story of one of the country’s most far reaching experiments in community transformation through farms, gardens and food culture.

Woven into the narrative are an introduction by Bill McKibben, 80 color photographs, and seven “How It Works” sections.

Join us for a discussion about the food culture in Mason County. Hear from members of the local farm community and others about how local food is distributed and connects our own community–who is doing what work, and what relationships can be made to make local food available to entities beyond restaurants, such as schools, shelters, elder care facilities, jails, etc.?

Jane Goodall says: “I love this book. It proves that every one of us, and every patch of soil, can make a difference. The way we connect with nature, with our food, and with each other can change the world.”

Guest, Filmmaker Deborah Stratman screens her award-winning documentary “O’er The Land”

Wednesday, February 9, 6:30PM

@ McReavy House Museum of Hood Canal

An intimate viewing of the documentary, “O’er The Land,” winner of several international awards including Ann Arbor Film Festival’s Ken Burns Award for Best of Festival and Best International Film at Toronto’s Images Festival. The filmmaker, Deborah Stratman will be on hand for questions and conversation following the film.

This film is concerned with the sudden, simple, thorough ways that events can separate us from the system of things, and place us in a kind of limbo.  Like when we fall. Or cross a border. Or get shot. Or saved. The film forces together culturally acceptable icons of heroic national tradition with the suggestion of unacceptable historical consequences, so that seemingly benign locations become zones of moral angst.

“O’er The Land” (51:40 minutes) will be preceded by four shorts. Single shot short, “The Memory” (2 minutes) is inspired by the Robert Creeley poem of the same title. The others comprise the paranormal trilogy, “How Among The Frozen Words” (44 seconds), “It Will Die Out In the Mind” (3:50 minutes), and “The Magician’s House” (5:45 minutes).

$2 at the door, students free.

I was asking a local soapmaker about the possibility of having a soapmaking class and she suggested that you may be having or planning to have one sometime in the near future. I would like to be notified if and when you do, or if you are aware of any at this time. Thank you for your time.
