With Deb Peterson of Shepherd’s Soap Company
This class ran in February. Check back for further offerings.
Learn how to make soap! Deb Petersen, of Shepherd’s Soap Co., will share ancient stories about the discovery and history of soapmaking, and what ingredients go into making soap. Participants will start from scratch, learning formulas used to mix oils and lye. They will then choose colors, scents, and texturing materials to mix into their soap, finally molding it into a bar to take home.
As the students work their materials in and shape their soap, Deb will discuss how herbs and essential oils provide the different characters of the soaps. Where and what do these ingredients come from? Which essences or herbs provide relaxation, clarity, focus, energy?
During the workshop, Deb will briefly explain the chemistry of soap formulas and the
science of balancing the acids (oils) and the alkali (sodium hydroxide).
Join us for some fun hands-on learning. The cost is $20. To register, contact Todd Fredson (todd@hctc.com).
